Lot description
The "All-American" totem of Summer, this realist oil painitng of a vanilla and chocolate soft-serve Dairy Queen ice-cream cone encapusltes the freshness and innocence that Summer ushers in and is an excviting example of the work of American Contemporary artist Tim O'Kane. O'Kane believes that inherent to the definition of “still-life” is the quality of trying to make permanent that which is ever moving and changing, starting to become our past, hence capturing a moment in the short life of the ice-cream cone, which starts to melt even as it is created.

Tim O'Kane is known internationally for his realist, yet unconventional still-life paintings, as the artist states:"As to subject matter, everything is fair game". O'Kane takes many days and often weeks to complete each of this incredibly detailed paintings, with his colors gradually applied, tonalities adjusted, details are articulated in painstaking perfection, many of which he adds only after days of extended observation of his subject matter. In that time, the 'still life' has become both an illusion and an actual thing, objects captured in time – as both a memory and a experience in the present.

Tim O'Kane (American, b. 1951) attended Blue Ridge Art School, Roanoke, Virginia where he painted under the instruction of George Solonevich from 1965-1968 and in 1972 received his B.F.A. Painting and Printmaking from the prestigious Virginia Commonwealth University, Richmond, Virginia. The photorealist still-life oil paintings by American artist Tim O'Kane are in select prestigious Museum and Corporate Collections, including The Chrysler Museum of Art, VA; The Greenville County Museum of Art, South Carolina; Crestar Bank, US; Virginia Power, VA; Hirsh & Bedner, Santa Monica, California; Equitable Insurance Corporation Headquarters, Columbus, Ohio with his paintings presently on view in the Washington D.C. office of Senator Mark Warner (VA).
