Lot description
"Sacrifice No.4" (2007) is one of the most hauntingly beautiful of the large-scale color photography by acclaimed Chinese Contemporary photographer Tian Taiquan's, from his famed "Sacrifice" series. Dimensions: 47.25 x 71.0 inches (120 x 180 cm) unframed, excellent condition, from an edition of 8. The setting here is a Red Guard graveyard in Beijing. Out of this dark, mysterious locale, a luminous nude young woman emerges at center, with transparent lavender robes billowing dramatically to cover her face, enhancing her otherworldly nature. Barely visible at far left is a spectral image of a young school girl sitting on graveyard steps, as if waiting for this woman to take her to a better place. The photographs of Tian are presently included in the seminal travelling U.S. Museum exhibition: "Rising Dragon: Contemporary Chinese Photography." 2012-13. Curator: Miles Barth.

His photographs, especially from the "Corruption of Desire" series, have been the subject of prestigious Museum exhibitions internationally such as "Seek and Hide, Tian Taiquan Solo Exhibition," Cultural Arts Museum, Beijing, China and "Foreordination and Transcendence" Contemporary Photography Exhibition, Singapore.
