Lot description

This lot is for 26 mixed media miniature figurines by Contemporary artist Takashi Murakami. Each figurine belongs to one of these three formal series of miniatures issued by Murakami: Los Angeles "superflat Museum series"(10 figurines), "Enchanted Forest series" (10 figurines) and "Rappongi Hills series" (6 figurines). Each figurine comes with an individual SERIAL NUMBER and a certificate of authenticity as issued when purchased. Presently held together in a private U.S Collection. Dates. c. 2002-2005. Dimensions approx for the following works all in excellent condition:40 x 30 x 6 inches (101.6 x 76.2 x 15.2 cm):

Considered the Warhol of Japan, Takashi Murakami (b. 1962) is a prolific contemporary Japanese artist who was classically trained in the historic ‘Nihon-ga’ style. Murakami's talent lies in his ability to blend traditional Japanese painting with that of contemporary pop culture. Often pushing the boundaries between what is considered high and low art, Takashi Murakami incorporates popular themes from pop culture, media, and cartoon animation into anything from his "Superflat" paintings to his sculptures. He also brands his own art to create marketable commercial goods including figurines, apparel, and even key chains, such as those offered here
