Takashi Murakami (Japan, b 1962), originally coined the term “Superflat”, a post-modern style describing both the aesthetic and conceptual characteristics of the Japanese art today, denying any deep spacial depth. Considered the Warhol of Japan, Murakami is classically trained in historic ‘Nihon-ga’ style at the Tokyo National University of Fine Arts and Music (BFA, MFA, and Ph.D).
