Stefanie Schneider (b. 1968, Cuxhaven, Germany) is a contemporary German photographer who specializes in using expired Polaroid film. Invariably set in the American South West, Schneider's surrealistic photographs frequently incorporate elements of myth, fantasy, and nostalgia. The unstable medium she employs results in overexposed, saturated, and dappled images, ghostly human figures and distorted landscapes. Her work consistently demonstrates the influences of fashion photography and narrative film. Schneider' s work has been acquired by the Sander Collection, Berlin, Germany; the Ocean Foundation, Zürich, Switzerland; and the Germanisches Nationalmuseum, Nürnberg, Germany. She lives and works in Los Angeles, CA and Berlin, Germany.
