"Golden Dragon no. 2" (2012) is one of the most majestic and sublime example of the large-scale, dynamic abstract 'action' paintings by Song Wei (b. 1955) an exciting, post-Modern Chinese Contemporary artist, only recently gaining international acclaim for his "action paintings". This work belongs to the artist's famed "Golden Dragon" Series of gold and black paintings, where Song unabashedly applies large areas of metallic gold paint to the canvas in a manner influenced by traditional Chinese ink painting and calligraphy, the gold dramatically contrasting against the canvas which the artist has painted a deep, solid black. This painting is unframed and in excellent condition, measuring 63 x 78.75 inches (160 x 200 cm).

Song Wei is only recently being shown outside of mainland China yet has been an major influence on the Chinese art scene for decades. In 1989 he was a major sponsor for the world renowned "China Avantgarde" exhibition, and helped build the first private Art Museum in China in 1990, establishing himself at the forefront of the Contemporary art movement. The artist lives and works in Beijing, China.
