"Utopia No. 16" (2012) is a stunning and important large-scale realist oil painting that is a cropped, close-up composition of beautiful pink flowers in full bloom with miniature bright red winged human figures, (their red color referencing China), frolicking as if honey bees. This painting measures 39.37 x 59.05 inches (100 x 150 cm) is unframed and in perfect condition and comes to artnet Auctions from The Studio of the Artist, China, with all documentation. This painting belongs to Shi's seminal new "Utopia" series that marks a significant new direction in the artist's oeuvre, which for decades was based on an intense black and red color palette and Communist, power based imagery. However, the works in Shi's "Utopia" series celebrate the growing peace and prosperity of modern China as a country, as well as addressing the blossoming potential for the individuals of China.

Shi Lifeng is one of the most famous artists of his 1960's generation of 'Chinese Avant Garde' artists and has exhibited at top international museums and galleries such as the Shanghai Duolun Museum of Modern Art, Yang Gallery (Singapore), and Beijing Contemporary Art Museum (Beijing, China), among others. Shi Lifeng graduated in 1991 from the Hebei Normal University, Hebei Province, China with a Degree in Painting.
