"Dreaming of Home, No. 1" (2010) is the first work in the seminal new "Dreaming of Home" series of magnificent large-scale realist oil paintings by famous Chinese Contemporary artist, Shi Lifeng, that mark a major new direction in his work. "Dreaming of Home, No. 1" depicts in incredible detail a blue and white traditional Chinese landscape, with a level of detail otherwise unseen in Shi's works prior. The artist magnificently transforms this scene into a surreal dream-scape, filled with the artist's iconic, miniature bright red winged-figures, a color that represents the Chinese people, all of whom gather in a bright ray of sunlight that beams down from above, flying upwards to meet the source of the light and towards their new home in 'modern China' and away from 'old China'. The jubilant presence of these figures in the incredibly lush yet tranquil scene transmits a sense of celebration and dynamism. This work took the artist several months to complete due to its incredible level of detail and composition. This work is unframed and in excellent condition.

Shi Lifeng' newest "Utopia" and "Dreaming of Home" Series of paintings and sculptures shed his intense black and red color palette and the serious Mao-era cultural references which defined Shi's oeuvre for the past decade. Now, his works depict blue skies, clean rivers flowing, beams of light, flowers in bloom, and other totems of peace and prosperity employed to represent modern China.

Shi Lifeng is one of the most famous artists of his 1960's generation of 'Chinese Avant Garde' artists and has exhibited at top international museums and galleries such as the Shanghai Duolun Museum of Modern Art, Yang Gallery (Singapore), and Beijing Contemporary Art Museum (Beijing, China), among others. Shi Lifeng graduated in 1991 from the Hebei Normal University, Hebei Province, China with a degree in Painting.
