Lot description
Sculptures reminiscent of Modern masters like Pablo Picasso and Henri Laurens, Contemporary Brazilian based artist, Sergio de Camargo (Brazil, 1930-1990) was influenced by the Modernists and Brazilian Constructivists of his era, and was a member of the Groupe de Recherche d'Art Visuel. His monochromatic white sculptures in wooden relief, with circular spheres and organic patterning, utilize rhythmic light and shadow, creating a delicate balance of order and chaos. This work measures 13.98 x 11.02 inches (35.5 x 28 cm) and is in excellent condition.

Brazilian based, Modern Latin American artist, Sergio Camargo (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, 1930-1990), received his formal education from the Academia Altamira in Buenos Aires, studying under Emilio Pettoruti and Lucio Fontana. Camargo was associated with the School of Paris, and was also affiliated with other major Latin American artists such as Waltercio Caldas, Eduardo Sued, and Jose Resende, among others. Highly acclaimed and respected world-wide, his works are included in major museums and private collections nationally and abroad in such galleries as the Tate Gallery in London. He has been included in multiple major Biennales like the Venice Biennale, and has even won the International Sculpture prize at the 1963 Paris Biennale. He is largely celebrated in his own nation, and was even granted a permanent exhibition space in Rio de Janeiro on the 10th year of his death, by Paco Imperial.
