Lot description

This portfolio of three original color lithographs and one original color monoprint, are all printed from four stones on 250gsm Velin d'Arches paper. Each sheet signed, dated and numbered in pencil by the artist. Please note the multi-color monoprint is reproduced here as an example. *Each portfolio contains a unique monoprint all of whch vary in color and density of imagery.

The monoprint annotated and bearing three randomly placed .22 caliber bullet holes, executed in an edition of 33 examples (there were also 6 numbered artist proof portfolios and 1 archive portfolio) printed by the artist. Contained in a hand-made linen-covered portfolio case with a colophon/justification page. Never removed from portfolio case other than for photos. Please note the monoprints in this portfolio vary in their orientation as well as the placement of the .22 caliber bullet holes.

Ryan McGinness (b. 1972) has gained international fame as a contemporary painter and graphic designer, known for combining and remixing graphic vocabularies from a range of sources. His work makes strong social commentary on iconography, language, and historical and contemporary symbolism. McGinness’ graphic signs and personal iconography are replicated, recontextualized, and materialized infinitely across a range of media—from paintings, prints, and installations, to skateboards, T-shirts, and videos. In 1999, he received critical acclaim for his first book, 'Flatnessisgod'.

McGinness' work has been exhibited internationally. His work can be found in the permanent collections of The Museum of Modern Art, New York, The Taguchi Art Collection, Tokyo, and The Charles Saatchi Collection, to name a few. He currently lives and works in New York.
