Lot description
This print is in excellent condition. From the portfolio of six prints, done in 1974. Published by Edizioni d' Arte AKA, Rome, Italy, on Rives paper. Printed by Franco Cioppi.

This is a very rare and difficult print to find. It is in excellent condition with deep, rich colors and a perfect strike. A compelling image, this print features a great deal of the Constructivist elements Tamayo is known for in his later work.

A Zapotec Indian, Rufino Tamayo (1899 - 1991) studied at the Academy of San Carlos from 1917 to 1922. He moved to New York in 1937 and was embraced by the art community, showing at both Knoedler and Marlborough galleries. Tamayo received international recognition when he exhibited his paintings at the Venice Biennale in 1950. He went on to live in Paris for the 10 years before returning to Mexico where he built a museum in his home town of Oaxaca. Tamayo's work has been displayed in museums throughout the world, including the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum in New York City, The Phillips Collection in Washington, and The Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofia in Madrid, Spain.
