Gouache and watercolor on buff wove paper, circa 1960. Signed in watercolor, lower right recto.

Canadian-American Modernist painter Rolph Scarlett's (1891-1994) work has been actively collected by institutions including the Guggenheim Museum since the mid 20th Century. His contemporaries include Rudolf Bauer, Wassily Kandinsky, Thomas Brownell Eldred, Paul Klee and others.

Hand signed lower right in watercolor by the artist. This work was acquired from the estate of collector philanthropist Jonas Aarons, who ran an eponymous art gallery in Rhinebeck, New York, for many years prior to his passing. It bears the gallery label on the frame back.
