Lot description
Artwork measures 44 x 30.5 inches (111.8 x 77.5 cm). Framed dimensions are 47.5 x 34 x 2.5 inches (120.7 x 86.4 x 6.3 cm).

Hand-signed and numbered in pencil by the artist, this original digital pigment print by Robert Longo comes from a limited edition of 15 and printed on Crane Portfolio rag paper. The work is framed in a contemporary matte black gessoed frame, recessed and floating on oyster linen matting, with UV-protective Plexiglas. Both the artwork and frame are in mint condition. All framing materials are of museum quality and are 100% acid-free. The work comes from the artist's well-known "Men in the Cities" series, which illustrates sharply dressed businessmen and women caught mid-movement in contorted poses. Work from the "Men in Cities" series is prominently featured in the apartment of fictional character Patrick Bateman in the film "American Psycho."

American artist Robert Longo (b. 1953) came to prominence in 1981 with his first solo exhibition at Metro Pictures, New York, NY: the "Men in the Cities" series, in which drawings of businesspeople caught in the midst of fluid movement were displayed alongside architectural forms made from cast aluminum reliefs. Since then, Longo has often engaged aspects of the three-dimensional in his paintings. Longo earned his BFA in 1975 from the State University College, Buffalo, NY. He was one of the original founders (along with Diane Bertolo, Charles Clough, Nancy Dwyer, Cindy Sherman, and Michael Zwack) of the highly influential Hallwalls. He is a co-founder and member of the band X PATSYS (with Barbara Sukowa, Jon Kessler, Anthony Coleman, Anton Fier, and Sean Conly). In 2009, the Musee d'Art Moderne et d'Art Contemporain Nice in Nice, France staged a major retrospective of Longo’s career from 1980-2009, which traveled to the Berardo Museum, Lisbon, Portugal in 2010. His work has also been the subject of recent solo shows at Galerie Thaddaeus Ropac, Paris, France (2011); Galería Soledad Lorenzo, Madrid, Spain (2011); Kunsthalle Weishaupt, Ulm, Germany (2010); and Metro Pictures Gallery, New York, NY (2009).
