Lot description
In 1967, Robert Indiana's "Love" print became known around the world as an anti-war symbol. The print started as a Christmas card for the Museum of Modern Art (you will see an upside down Christmas tree in the Letter "V"). The Love print eventually was chosen as a U.S. postage stamp.

In 1996, the publisher of American Images approached Indiana with the idea of expanding the Love print into a portfolio of 12 different images, and also to publish Indiana's poems as part of the new set. This print is from this new set.

Robert Indiana, one of America's most important 20th century artists, is a seminal icon of Pop Art. Robert Indiana was born in New Castle, Indiana. He graduated from Arsenal Technical High School in Indianapolis. He moved to New York City in 1954 and joined the Pop Art movement, using distinctive imagery drawing on commercial art using an existentialism that gradually moved toward what Indiana calls "sculptural poems". Mr. Indiana's works are in important collections on five continents, including the Museum of Modern Art and the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
