Lot description
Inspired by Imagism, an early 20th century poetry movement that favored sharp language and precision of imagery, Indiana created this along with various other print series that can be seen as interpretations of The American Dream.

One of the most widely recognized and respected American artists today, Robert Indiana (born September 13 , 1928) has been a pioneer of pop art as well as assemblage art and hard-edge abstraction. For more than fifty years, Indiana has been preoccupied with Americana, signage, the power of language and the abstraction of ordinary words. Indiana gained international recognition in the early 1960s after almost a decade of working in New York City. His early pop-inspired work gained international attention due to its social and political overtones, particularly when his LOVE print became the emblem of 1960’s idealism. Uniquely employing the vernacular of contemporary Americana combined with a sophisticated formal and conceptual approach, Robert Indiana established his role as a major figure in pop art as well as a contemporary icon for an entire generation.
