Lot description
"Obama" (2009), is one of the most visually exciting of the bold series of Pop-art inspired portraits of the world's famous political and cultural icons by important emerging Chinese Contemporary artist, Ren Zhenyu (China b. 1976). This painting measures 39.37 x 35.43 inches (100 x 90 cm) is in excellent condition and is one of only two portraits that the artist has ever painted of Obama. Ren's unexpected spectrum of colors here, and his signature staccato brush strokes work together to create a dynamic and celebratory portrait of the newly re-elected U.S. President.

Ren is known the world over for his oil on canvas portraits of Eastern and Western cultural icons from the past several decades, including Che Guevara, Marilyn Monroe, Andy Warhol, Chairman Mao, Albert Einstein, Steven Jobs, Damien Hirst, Francis Bacon and the British Royal Family, among others. His influences range from Yan Pei Ming, to Vincent van Gogh, Lucien Freud and Jenny Saville. Born in China in 1976, Ren Zhenyu graduated in 1999 from the Tianjin Academy of Fine Art. His work has been exhibited in solo and group Museums shows world wide, most recently at The Shanghai Art Museum, China. He is represented by prestigious galleries in China, Europe and the U.K. and his paintings are held in select private and public collections in the U.S, U.K, Australia, Singapore, Europe and throughout Asia. The artist lives and works in China.
