Lot description
A Young Girl in Sapa" (2005) is professionally framed in a clean dark frame and in excellent condition.(Please Refer to Images).

Vietnamese Post-Modern painter Pham Luan (B. 1954) is internationally known for his vibrant, lush oil paintings that capture the places and people of his native country. "Young Girl in Sapa" is a visually arresting image of a young girl in profile against a lush turquoise wall, wearing a traditional dark dress festooned with a kaleidoscope of colored embellishments and a vibrant blue head-scarf. The unique perspective and the clever use of negative space makes this painting particularly engaging and a rare example of the artist's purely figural paintings. This work is custom framed and is in excellent condition.

Luan’s works is essentially a celebration of light. Whether it is an ancient street in the old quarters in Hanoi, or in this case a quiet moment of reflection for a young girl, the artist is always in constant search for the best and most sophisticated use of light and the elements of reveal/conceal. He paints with an energy and emotion that is reflected in the definite and saturated brush-stokes that have come to define his paintings.

Pham Luan is one of the most established artists painting today in Vietnam. Luan is entirely self-taught. The artist's work has been exhibited world-wide, including solo exhibitions that first began in Hanoi in 1991, then on to Hong Kong, Chicago, New York and London, and Europe for the past two decades. The artist has firmly established his place in the international art and auction arena.
