Lot description
An original vintage silver gelatin photograph by Paul J. Woolf. Paper size is 8 x 10 inches (20.3 x 25.4 cm).

"New York's skyline is, for better or worse, the very definition of change. But Woolf had the vision to record what was fresh and new in his time. " - Grace Glueck, New York Times

British photographer, Paul Woolf, is known for his crisp, streamlined photographs depicting the dramatic architecture of cities. Woolf photographed New York in the 1930's, a period of great architectural and urban expansion. Woolf documented important structures such as the George Washington Bridge, the Hayden Planetarium, and the McGraw Hill Building, "rising in magisterial splendor above its neighbors." Woolf's work is fraught with "architectural contrasts," and drama, recording a moment in history. This work is an unusual break from Woolf's typical subject matter.
