Lot description
Pablo Picasso (1881-1973) is one of the most prominent and innovative artists of the last century. An early proponent of Cubism, Picasso is celebrated for his long and prolific career and for his work in several modernist idioms executed in a wide range of media. When the first artworks from Africa were exhibited in Paris, he and other Modern artists found inspiration in the elegantly simple African aesthetic and incorporated certain stylistic components into their own work.

Picasso was a master in portraying even the simplest of objects into the finest works of art. His ceramics are fantastic example of this. Picasso would escape to Madoura Pottery workshop in Vallauris, Southern France in the summer to relax. During his time there, he exclusively produced limited-edition ceramic works with George and Suzanne Ramié at Madoura Potteries in Vallauris France between the years of 1947 and 1971.

Held in the highest regard during his lifetime, retrospectives of the artist’s work have been held at the Museum of Modern Art in New York, the Musée Picasso in Paris, the Emirates Palace in Abu Dhabi, the National Gallery in London, and the Reina Sofia Museum in Madrid, among other institutions. Picasso is widely seen as one of the most influential artists of the 20th-century and a Modern master.
