Lot description
Picasso was delighted to discover that bullfighting had became popular in France after World World II. Often the ancient Roman arenas became makeshift Corridas, with the most famous Spanish matadors providing the spectacle, along with the Picadors. This dynamic ceramic captures the drama of the bullfight and the life and death struggle. Picasso was certainly not unaware that he was joining a pantheon of famous Spanish artists, such as Goya, who had devoted many of their paintings and prints to the subject.
