Lot description
The human face was a constant source of inspiration for Picasso, and many of his ceramics feature this subject. "Face with Black Nose" is a charming turned pitcher that is very detailed for its relatively small stature. The face features big smiling eyes and a stylized black and green nose that dominates his face. The shape of this pitcher is reminiscent of ancient Greek vessels. It is made of white earthenware, decorated with knife engraving and engobes, which consists of a fine clay mixed with coloring oxides, under a partially brushed glaze.
