Lot description
"Crayons" (2012) is an stunning photo-realist oil painting on archivally treated reclaimed tin by American Contemporary artist Michael Fitts. This painting is one of his finest and largest to date, measuring 24 x 24 inches, is unframed and in excellent condition. Fiitts is internationally acclaimed for his paintings of everyday objects from American culture that are nostalgic and ephemeral and places them into the realm on the revered, painting them in an incredible trompe l'oeil manner at the center of his canvas as if an icon or worship. His subjects include coffee cups, toys, balloons, shoes, snack foods, utensils, and other objects of the American cultural experience over the past several decades.

Michael Fitts graduated with a Degree in painting from Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) in Richmond, VA. He began looking for alternative surfaces to paint on, partly for the experimental aspect, but also because of the sheer variety of surface tones and textures. Of particular interest are pieces that have markings, distressed paint or dents and scratches that were produced long before the artist discovered the discarded metal. The work of Michael Fitts belongs to select prestigious private and corporate collections and has been exhibited in Art Fairs and Gallery exhibitions, world-wide. The artist lives and works in Virgina, US
