Lot description
Paper size is 25 x 20 inches (63.5 x 50.8 cm).

The collaborative duo of McDermott and McGough explore the cultural and societal landscapes of the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, examining religion, morality, sexuality, beauty, and technology. Whether painting only by natural light in pre-electricity studios, sporting their own Victorian attire, or travelling trans-atlantic by Barge, McDermott and McGough are essentially time travelers from a not-to-distant past. The artists originally came up in the fertile 1980s New York East Village scene, where the duo exhibited at many now legendary galleries, such as Holly Solomon, Pat Hearn, and Tony Shafrazi. David Walter McDermott and Peter Thomas McGough now live and work in New York, NY, and Dublin, Ireland. Their Recent exhibits include McDermott & McGough – An Experience of Amusing Chemistry: Photographs 1990-1890 at the Irish Museum of Modern Art (Dublin, Ireland) and The Lust That Comes from Nothing at the Akureyri Art Museum (Akureyri, Iceland).
