Known for his abstract expressionist and large scale sculptures, American artist Mark di Suvero (b. 1933), was considered a pioneer in the medium, specifically with steel and crane constructions. As one of the most influential artists in contemporary sculpture, di Suvero creates work heavily grounded in ideas of motion, time, and space, drawing inspiration from Alexander Calder’s hanging ‘Mobile’ constructions. He has received numerous awards over the course of his career including the Nation Medal of Arts, the International Sculpture Center Lifetime Achievement Award, and the Heinz Award for Arts and Humanities. Di Suvero has exhibited at numerous venues internationally including Le Jardin de Tuileries and Les Esplanades des Invalides (Paris, France), Millennium Park (Chicago, IL), Hiroshima Museum of Contemporary Art (Hiroshima, Japan), and the Whitney Museum of American Art (New York, NY), among others.
