Lot description
"Welcome! Welcome! A Thousand Flowers" (2008)is a highly important, unique glazed porcelain sculpture by famed Chinese Contemporary artistic collaborators, The Luo Brothers and represents a singular opportunity to acquire a one-of-a -kind table-top sculpture that encapsulates the very best work by the trio. Dimensions for this work are: 21.75 x 11.80 x 11.80 inches. (55 x 30 x 30cm) Note: This work is in excellent condition.

This sculpture depicts their iconic, chubby smiling baby (a figure that represents prosperity in China) sitting cross-legged atop a mountain of white roses in full bloom, with another large rose depicted atop the center of his bald head. He wears an expression of utter delight as he holds out a super-sized McDonald's "Big Mac" sandwich in his chubby hands.
This porcelain sculpture is not only beautiful, but also it is important, as the Luo Brothers typically rely on intense polychrome in their works to underscore the kitsch nature of materialism and globalization in the new, Modern China and usually edition their sculptures. Here, the Luo Brothers remove this reliance on color and express their messages by directly referencing China's traditional porcelains from Dynasties past. This conflation of traditional Chinese porcelain with a kitsch-laden imagery is brilliant, sublime and definite.

The three Luo Brothers, Luo Wei Dong, Luo Wei Bing and Luo Wei Guo, are internationally famous for these unique, over-the top works in a variety of media mostly lacquer paintings on wooden panels and cast statues out of lacquered fiberglass or bronze. The works are in effect a conglomeration of what makes up their society today. Their multi-media works are embraced by an international groups of curators and collectors alike for their unique narratives, themes and materials, and are represented by the top galleries in Asia, Europe and the U.S. Their work is highly sought-after on the primary and secondary markets, world-wide. The artists live and work in China.
