This silkscreened pillowcase with embroidery on the back that reads "Je t'aime" was created by the artist as a special work for the Tate Gallery during the late artist Louise Bourgeois' Retrospective in 1994, and it sold out immediately. These limited edition fabric works by the artist are highly desirable.

Louise Bourgeois (1911 - 2010) was a renowned French-American artist and sculptor, know by many as the matriarch of Contemporary art. Best known for her Maman sculptures of spiders, which now grace the entrance of the Tate in London, Bourgeois studied both at the Ecole du Louvre as well as the Ecole des Beaux-Arts. She worked as an assistant to Fernand Leger.

Her artwork is abstract, and she often speaks of them in symbolic terms, focusing on the importance of the relationship an entity has to its surroundings. She finds inspiration in her childhood, recalling the affair her father had with her governess and her mother’s refusal to acknowledge it. Her artwork conveys feelings of anger, betrayal, and jealous in a playful manner. She has worked with many different mediums including rubber, wood, stone, metal, and fabric (her parents were tapestry makers). Some of her pieces consist of erotic and sexual images-the most famous being her motif of what she named “cumuls,” round figures that reminded her of cumulus clouds. She is one of the seminal female artists of the 20th Century, inspiring a generation of new artists, such as Rachel Whiteread, and others. At 96 years old, Bourgeois had a major retrospective at the Guggenheim Museum in the Fall of 2008.
