"Face" (2009) is a visually arresting, large-scale oil painting of a super-cropped, fragmented portrait of a beautiful young Chinese girl by Chinese Contemporary artist Liu Xuekai (China B. 1964). The artist is internationally acclaimed for this fresh take on the female portrait that combines references from a number of influences, including Pointillism, the painting style of Chuck Close, as well as traditional Chinese female pastimes such as needlepoint and embroidery. Most importantly, Liu's portrait series is influences by the fragmented and often highly pixilated images transmitted in this modern era via social media outlets and live Internet video feeds. The super-bright color palette used to paint "Face" is another feature of Liu's oeuvre and gives his portraits an electric feel, as if created from LED or neon lights. This painting is unframed, measures 51.18 x 43.30 inches 9130 x 110 cm) and in excellent condition.

Liu Xuekai was born in 1984 in Liaoning, China, and graduated from Luxun Academy of Fine Arts, China, as well as the Central Academy of Fine Arts in Beijing in 1993. The artist has exhibited in prestigious Museum and gallery exhibitions including "The 3rd International Visual Culture Special Group 2006" show at the Today Art Museum, the "80th Anniversary of the Founding of the PLA Art Exhibition" at the China National Museum of Arts, along with numerous notable solo and group shows throughout Asia and Europe.
