"The Distant Dream" (2012) is one of the latest in a series of stunning, large scale figurative oil paintings on canvas by rising star, Chinese Contemporary female artist Liu Chenyang, a leading painter of her 1980's generation in Asia. "The Distant Dream" is a surreal nightscape scene which features young women in the presence of animals, a theme inherent to the artist's work. The work is painted in her iconic broad brush-strokes of flat color and in a tranquil palette that exudes the feeling of night recently fallen, underscored by the flight of the owl through the scene. Two beautiful young women stand poised and calm with eyes closed as if dreaming themselves, stroking a white cat held in the arms of one of the girls. Liu's break from the popular trend in Chinese Contemporary Art is underscored in "Come With Me", as is her aversion to the neon and day-glow colors that are so often included in the paintings of her Contemporaries. European and Impressionist influence on Liu's painting manner is evident, clearly influenced by artists such as Goya in this case. This canvas measures 51.20 x 55.10 inches (130 x 140 inches) as unframed, and is in excellent condition. Can ship on or off stretchers, professionally rolled if desired.

The artist was born in 1984 and has already exhibited in top museums and galleries world-wide, including a 2009 solo show at Three Ravens Gallery, Brooklyn, New York, in Toronto, Canada, The Guangxi Museum in Nanning, China. In 2010 Liu's paintings were featured in "Existence·Harmony·Good", at The Shanghai World Expo China Art Exhibition, as well as at "The 1st Annual Beijing Art Gathering", Jinbaohui Art Center, Beijing, China.
