Lot description
"Portrait (Buddha Series)" (2006) is a sublime oil painting by internationally acclaimed Chinese Contemporary artist, Ling Jian (Chinese, 1963). This work belongs to ongoing Series of paintings that depict super-close up dream-like portraits of Chinese women and men whose exaggerated facial features and uncertain context defy time and place. This work measures 23.60 inches diameter (60 cm diam.) and is in excellent condition.

Ling Jian (B. 1963, Shandong Province, China) is one of the pioneers of Contemporary Realism in China whose work continues to influence the younger 1970's and 1980's generations of Chinese Contemporary Realist painters. His paintings are highly sought after on the international Ling Jian received his Degree in painting from the Qinghua University Art College in Beijing. After completing his degree in 1987, he left China to study and paint in Vienna, then to Hamburg and finally Berlin, Germany. Ling has exhibited in prestigious solo and group gallery and fine art fair exhibitions throughout China, Russia, Europe, The United Kingdom, The U.S., as well at the Museum of Modern Art Ostend, Belgium, the Nanjing Museum of Art, China with major work just exhibited at Art Asia Miami, US in December 2011. The artist presently lives and works between Berlin and Beijing.
