A prominent presence in the first wave of pictorialism, Belgian photographer Léonard Misonne acquired a lasting reputation for bucolic and timeless landscapes, a theme he explored throughout his entire career. Misonne’s photos tend toward a conservative aesthetic while seemingly expressing a sentimental nostalgia. Light and atmosphere are expertly handled, giving ordinary subject matter a feeling of ethereality and otherworldliness.
