BROOKLYN ARTISTS BALL AUCTION
This artwork is being auctioned in conjunction with the Brooklyn Artists Ball, celebrating women artists and the fifth anniversary of the Elizabeth A. Sackler Center for Feminist Art. All proceeds from the auction benefit the Museum's education, exhibition, and outreach programs .The artwork in this auction will be on view at the museum from April 13-18 and will be showcased at the Brooklyn Artists Ball Benefit on Wednesday, April 18th. American artist Kristin Baker (b. 1975) is known for her large, explosive paintings that forge the boundaries of the representational world and the abstract. Baker studied painting at the School of the Museum of Fine Arts and received her MA in painting from Yale in 2002. Drawing inspiration from a wide array of sources, such as car racing, pop art, abstract expressionism, and artists such as Delacroix and Duchamp, Baker creates high intensity paintings, full of speed, movement, and drama. For Baker the process in an important aspect of her work and her technique in far from traditional, using layers of tape and acrylic paint to create dynamic surfaces on PVC panel. Her dramatic paintings and undulating surfaces are reminiscent of many genres but are confined to none, making her work truly unique. Baker has exhibited widely throughout the world and has her work in major museum collections including the Guggenheim Museum, Centre Georges Pompidou in Paris, the Whitney Museum of American Art, and Yale University, in New Haven Connecticut. The artist lives and works in New York City.
