Acting as a window into a romantic, whimsical world, Kay Moran’s 15 x 18 inch painting ‘Richelle’ demonstrates Moran’s ability to inspire a sense of spirit and function through pure abstraction. Moran’s dynamic brushstrokes move across the canvas, building at points of impact to produce gestures of scenery and figurative forms. Allowing the paint to dictate the composition’s impression, Moran establishes a striking world that pulls in different directions both visually and emotionally, facilitating entirely unique experiences for each viewer who peers through her window.

The intricate painted abstractions of British artist Katy Moran (b.1975) appear like well-worn artifacts from a past decade. With a dense application of paint, Moran chips and dissolves portions of her canvases, creating an aged effect that encourages her audience to inspect the depths of her compositions for figural gestures. Working exclusively on 15 x 18 inch canvases, Moran provides only a small glimpse of her imaginative universes. Moran studied graphic art and design at Leeds Metropolitan University, earning a BA in 1998, and received a Masters in Painting in 2005 from the Royal College of Art, London, England. Since then, her work has been featured in exhibitions throughout the world, with recent solo shows at Andrea Rosen Gallery, New York, NY (2011); Wexner Center for the Arts, Columbus, OH (2010); Stuart Shave/Modern Art, London, England (2009); Galleria Il Capricorno, Venice, Italy (2009); Anthony Meier, San Francisco, CA (2008); and Grusenmeyer Art Gallery, Deurie, France (2006).
