South Korean Contemporary artist Jung Bocsu (Korea, b. 1955) is renowned for his surreal, stylized figurative paintings that address issues of transcendence, meditation, sexuality, and the relationship between the physical body and the spiritual self. “How To Find The Village” (2008) is a stunning painting that stands as a primary example of the very best works by the artist, and incorporate a written mantra into the visual language of the narrative. Bocsu writes:“Love your life. Anguish is the most beautiful thing in your life” above one severed arm of his protagonist who is depicted against a lush, rose-colored background. This work is painted at a small-scale to reference traditional Asian Miniature Paintings, while the naive treatment of his subjects, as well as his choice of watercolor and colored pencil as medium lends a feel of Outsider Art to the work, for which Bocsu is famous. “How To Find The Village” measures 14.00 x 11 inches (35.50 cm x 28 cm) and is in excellent condition.

Jung Bocsu is a leader of the like Conceptual Expressionism movement, along with other famous Asian artists Ma Luiming and Zhao Nengzhi.
The artist graduated from Hong-ik University, Seoul, Korea and his work has been the subject of major solo and group exhibitions throughout Asia and Europe. Including: Korea National Museum of Contemporary Art, Total Museum, Seoul Museum of Art, and Taipei Museum, Taiwan. Bocsu's works are included held in the permanent collections of the National Museum of Contemporary Art, Korea, the Seoul City Museum, and City Museum in Busan, Korea. The artist lives and works in South Korea.
