Lot description
image: 27 x 30 in.

First time at auction! This is one of six colorways of Baldessari's Stonehenge prints. Baldessari has worked with the innovative Mixografia on several of his prints. It is a perfect pairing for an artist known for expanding the boundaries of art. Mixografia creates three dimensional prints and allows artists to reach beyond traditional printing techniques and methods. Since 1973 John Baldessari has been exploring photography as a way to create collaged compositions that explore the relationships between images. He takes his imagery from many sources, including advertising and film. He also applies a painterly element to remind the viewer that the hand of the artist is not only in the ordering of the images but to hybridize mark making and photo making. John Baldessari has been termed "one of the most influential artists to emerge since the mid-1960s." From his phototext canvases to his composite photo collages and installations, Baldessari has contributed to the definition of postmodern art. In the early 1970s, he produced droll conceptual videotapes that are ironic investigations into perception, meaning and interpretation, rendered with deadpan, often absurdist humor. Baldessari is one of the most well known artists of our time, with over 120 solo exhibitions worldwide. This past year, a retrospective of the artist's work was exhibited at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York.

This work is beautifully framed to archival standards.
