Lot description
This is an original (2 panel) lithograph with embossing, debossing, and metal die-cut by world famous artist John Baldessari entitled 'Noses & Ears, Etc.: Couple and Man with Gun' from 2007. The piece is hand signed, numbered, and dated in pencil by the artist from the small edition of only 50 on Somerset paper. The art is beautifully framed in a contemporary matte black gessoed frame, recessed and floating on oyster linen matting. The framed size measures 30 1/2 x 41 3/4" with both the art and frame being in mint condition. All framing materials used are of museum quality and are 100% acid free including u.v. protective plexi-glas.

Since 1973, John Baldessari (B. 1931, National City, CA) has used photography as a way to create conceptual compositions that explore relationships between images and language, often rendering them with an absurdist sense of humor. He appropriates his imagery from a variety of sources, including advertising and film, transforming them into works that are ironic investigations into perception, meaning and interpretation. Baldessari applies a painterly element to remind the viewer that the hand of the artist is not only in the ordering of the images, but to hybridize the photographic process. From his photo-text canvases and obscuring of faces, to his composite photo collages and installations, Baldessari has significantly contributed to the definition and evolution of Post-Modern art. The artist has won various awards over the course of his career including the Golden Lion Lifetime Achievement Award from the 53rd International Art Exhibition Venice Biennale in 2009 and the Lifetime Achievement Award from Americans for the Arts in 2005, among numerous others.
