"The Psychology of Judgment and Decision Making" (2004 ) a large-scale, stunning painting by U.S. based, Korean Contemporary artist Jinchul Kim.
A young woman dressed in white tank and denim cut-off shorts that define the average American girl, stands at center, in a context that is intentionally unclear. Her straightforward gaze is steady yet reveals little about her emotional state. Kim places a table between the woman and the viewer, adding metaphorical and literal distance between the two. Where exactly is this young woman? What does she hold behind her back? "The Psychology of Judgment and Decision Making" measures 30 x 48 inches, is framed to slightly larger dimensions and is in excellent condition. This work belongs to Kim's internationally acclaimed series of realist portraits of young American women that each possess an undercurrent of emotional and psychological tension underneath their superficial beauty and where the narrative is never fully disclosed..

Jinchul Kim was born and raised in South Korea, where he earned a BFA and MFA from King Se-Jong University, concentrating in painting. The artist moved to the US in 1989 and in 1993 he received an MFA from the School of Visual Arts in New York City. His work is held in select public and private collections in Asia, Europe and the U.S. The artist presently lives and works in Washington D.C.
