Lot description
In an interview with artnet Magazine Dine entitled "Lone Wolf: An Interview with Jim Dine" by Ilka Skobie, Jim Dine reveals his motives behind creating his millions of Heart prints: "I have no idea but it’s mine and I use it as a template for all my emotions. It’s a landscape for everything. It’s like Indian classical music -- based on something very simple but building to a complicated structure. Within that you can do anything in the world. And that’s how I feel about my hearts."

Employing a mix of familiar and traditional imagery, Jim Dine (b. 1935) creates works of art that combine elements of fantasy and reality. Whether drawing, painting or sculpting Dine always infuses a sense of energy and playfulness into his vibrant abstract representations that combine classical pictorial fundamentals with unprecedented techniques. Dine learned to hone his craft at Ohio University, Athens, OH, where he received his BFA in 1957. Since his first solo exhibition at the Martha Jackson Gallery in New York City, Dine has gone on to exhibit his work at numerous galleries and museums around the world including the Wetterling Gallery, Stockholm, Sweden (2003), The National Gallery of Art, Washington D.C (2004) and the Richard Gray Gallery, Chicago, IL (2005).
