Jenny Holzer's fascination with the problems of consumer media is not only realized in her 2-dimensional art, but is also evident in her 3-dimensional works. "Truisms 2" is part of a series that further explores the market of advertising and the messages sent to society. Her remarkable abilities as an artist are exemplified with this work, as she effectively uses language and LED screens to draw attention to the question of whether or not society is indeed in charge of the information presented to them.

Referencing current affairs, Jenny Holzer (b.1950) creates works that are controversial and often times thought provoking. Drawing inspiration from the written word, Holzer uses language as art throughout her oveuve. The installation of Holzer's art is unconventional for she has placed her work on building facades, advertisements as well as telephone booths. Holzer received a BA from Ohio University in Athens (1972); an MFA from the Rhode Island School of Design, Providence (1977) and has since gone on to exhibit at numerous galleries and museums worldwide including the honor of being the first American woman to exhibit at the Venice Biennial in 1989.
