Lot description
Original intricate drawing created with black marker, hand signed and uniquely dedicated to Hillary by pioneering art world super star Jeff Koons. This drawing is bound within the lavish hardback monograph "Versailles", published on the occasion of Koons's 2008 blockbuster retrospective at France's legendary Palace of Versailles -- the first time that the chateau built by Louis XIV has organized so ambitious a retrospective dedicated to one contemporary artist.

Jeff Koons is among the most popular artists to have emerged in the past 20 years, spawning a new generation of Neo-Dada artists, such as Damien Hirst. Like Marcel Duchamp and Andy Warhol, Koons is concerned with the transformation of everyday objects into art. His work merges high culture and kitsch into banal works of balloon animals, topiary terriers, and pop icons. Koons insists that there are no hidden meanings in his art, feeling it causes too much critical contemplation. Instead, he wishes his work to be perceived for its initial reaction instilled within the viewer. Over the course of his career, Koons has received numerous awards including the John Singleton Copley Award (2010), the Wollaston Award from the Royal Academy of London (2008), and the Artistic Achievement Award from Americans for the Arts (2006), among others. Koons has already been awarded several museum retrospectives.

Versailles, Koons first retrospective in France, featured 17 monumental works by the artist, and the monograph that holds this drawing is filled with lavish full-page color illustrations of this groundbreaking show.

This work makes a memorable gift-- especially (but not necessarily) for somebody named Hillary!

The drawing could either be separated from the monograph and elegantly framed, or kept within the book for viewing.
