Lot description

Photographer Jan Saudek (b. 1935) began creating his own fantastical erotic photographs in 1951, after two decades working in the Czech State Printing Works; twenty years later the artist began to also hand-paint his silver prints in a classical manner. Saudek’s classical treatment, influenced by historical and formal portraiture, seems to validate the forced voyeurism experienced by viewers of his work. The artist currently lives and works in Prague, Czech Republic.
