In his highly imaginative and thought provoking art, one of the most critically acclaimed Indian artists working today, Jagannath Panda (B. 1970), explores dualities and contradictions such as the play between contemporary verses traditional, urban verses rural, and figurative verses abstraction to examine cultural, social, environmental, and political issues. Integrating opposites into one cohesive composition, Jagannath deftly infuses his work with a unique personal aesthetic while creating an internal commentary on the subjects being addressed.

Often employing mixed media, cloth, vellum, wood, and other elements, as well as animals as a representations of the human condition, the artist constructs collages and assemblages to juxtapose symbolism with contradictory views of reality. Jagannath has received numerous awards over the course of his career including the Centre Prize from C.I.I.C London (2002), the All India Fine Arts and Crafts Society Award (1996), and the National Academe Award from Central Lalit Kala Academe (1995), among numerous others.
