Lot description
Masking in blue created by American painter, Hunt Slonem for the 2009 Viennese Opera Ball Signature Collection. This work employs the artist's iconic use of vivid color, painted across the mask's surface in a dynamic display of texture and pigment.

Hunt Slonem’s work combines abstract expressionism with representational imagery in vibrant ranges of exotic colors. He creates idiosyncratic portrayals of exotic birds and other creatures, most often utilizing a white textured background to support quickly-applied brush strokes reminiscent of the visual poetry of the abstract expressionism. The artist's immediately recognizable style uses characteristically gestural strokes, laid down with speed and precision. His experiences in Hawaii and Nicaragua emanate through the canvas, as one is met with an eruption of color and alluring exotic imagery. He is collected by over 75 international museums and is currently represented by Marlborough Gallery in New York.
