"No. 17. Comfort" (2008) is a masterpiece by famed Chinese Contemporary artist Huang Yong. This work features two otherworldly figures at the center of the composition, one figure sits cross-legged at center, head bowed down as they stroke the head of the other figure who rests in their lap. This resting figure is painted a luminous white, represented with eyes and mouth closed, laid out on the ground towards the viewer, adding depth to this otherwise ethereal composition. Huang is famous for pulling intense human emotion and expressions out of abstracted areas of neutral colors--here ivory, taupe, greys and browns. Huang has painted "Comfort" in the most quiet and dignified manner, allowing the feeling of empathy, comfort and love to transmit via the connection of the two figures to one another, both literally and metaphorically.

Through sophisticated yet subtle applications of paint, and finding the perfect balance between the representational and the abstract, Huang has mastered encapsulating human emotion in a painterly style that is uniquely his own and has won him international critical acclaim. he application of paint is specific yet not controlled completely by Huang, who balances lines and mark-making with pools and spills of paint left to create their own shapes and marks. The harmony of line, color, and narrative are the key to the mastery of Huang Yong's paintings, which rarely come to the secondary market.

The paintings of Huang have been the subject of select solo Museum and Fine Art Shows including two solo exhibitions in 2009 "Huang Yong-Exit" at Today Museum, Beijing as well as at Doulun Museum in Shanghai, China. Huang Yong was born in 1968, Hunan Province, China and received his formal training with a Fine Arts Degree from The Central Academy Of Fine Arts of China in 1990.
