"Shower" (2005), a rare spit bit etching by Japanese Contemporary artist Hideaki Kawashima, from a long sold-out edition, numbered 18/25 and in excellent condition. While many artists are known for a primary style with many sub-styles, Hideaki Kawashima's ouevre is known almost exclusively for a single manner of painting. The artist's amorphous feminine subjects tend to feature stylized, rounded heads, depicted in light hues and include delicate facial feature, specificallty large almond-shaped eyes and red painted lips, as seen here. This stunning print comes to this Sale directly from a European Private Collection, and was purchased by present owner directly from the prestigious Tomio Koyama Gallery, Tokyo whom formally represent the artist, in 2006. Print image dimensions are 8.27 x 10.63 inches (21 x 27 cm), with paper sheet dimensions 18.11 x 14.57 inches (46 x 37 cm). This work is museum quality, custom framed with anti-glare, UV absorption glass (dimensions are approximate).
Hideaki Kawashima was born in 1969 in the Aichi Prefecture in China, but currently resides in Tokyo, Japan. He studied with Yoshimoto Nara and was influenced by other artists who depict such ethereal visions popular throughout Asian, Europe, and now in the US. Graduating from Tokyo Zokei University in 1991, he was also trained in classical Buddhism. He is represented in Japan by Tomio Gallery, Tokyo, and Richard Heller Gallery, Santa Monica, CA and studied with fellow Japanese artist Yoshimoto Nara.
