Lot description
Vintage print, paper size is 3 x 4 inches (7.6 x 10.2 cm).

Helen Levitt (1913 - 2009) was an American photographer. She is particularly revered for capturing the spirit of New York through street photography, and has been called "the most celebrated and least known photographer of her time."

Levitt was a self taught photographer, but was also informally mentored by Henri Cartier-Bresson and Walker Evans. Through Evans, she met James Agee, and the two went on to work on several documentary films together. Levitt's work has been exhibited internationally, starting with her first major exhibition in 1943 at the Museum of Modern Art. In 1997, while in her 80s, Levitt received the ICP Master of Photography award. She died in 2009 at the age of 95.
