Vintage gelatin silver print, 10 x 8 in. (25.4 x 20.3 cm).

Gjon Mili was an Albanian-American photographer who is most well known for his work for LIFE Magazine from 1939 until his death in 1984. During the 1940s, Mili also worked as an assistant to Edward Weston. Mili photographed a wide array of subjects and is recognized for his innovative use of flash photography to capture motion. Through manipulation of flash and shutter speed, and a keen awareness of the photographic process, Mili depicts subjects in graceful motion.
