Lot description
This luminously painted acrylic on canvas by the Cuban artist, Gabriel Sanchez Toledo (Cuban, b. 1979), is a wonderful example of the artist's talent and skill. The marriage between the historical architectural land mark, of the Patronas buildings, upon a sea-barring vessel, makes this piece, and others done by Toledo, a powerful symbol of identity, change, and memory over time and space. Toledo also envelopes his settings with thick atmosphere underscoring the theme of nature against man made structures, as the Patronas buildings, known for their elevated and pointed peak, jut out through the rain and fog. These Malasian twin skyscrapers continue the artists series which feature architectural icons atop ships. "Patronas" (2011) measures 70.86 x 53.15 inches (180 x 135 cm) is framed to larger dimensions listed approximately above, and is in excellent condition.

Gabriel Sanchez Toledo was born on August 17, 1979 in Cabaiguan, Cuba, and studied painting at the Samuel Feijoo School of Art in the province of Villa Clara, graduating in June of 2001. He was honored with the Academic Award in 2001 by the Superior Institute of Art and the acclaimed San Alejandro Academy, Havana, Cuba. He has exhibited world-wide in such shows and fairs as the Trinidad Bienal in Cuba, Arteamerica in the US, Art Miami, Plambeach3, the American Int'l Fine Art Fair, among many others.
