Lot description
Vintage Photograph
Frédéric Boissonnas (1858–1946) was a Swiss photographer coming from a family of artists in Geneva. In 1887, he succeeded his father, Henri-Antoine Boissonas (1833-1889), in running the photography workshop he founded in 1864. That year, Frédéric also became a member of the Geneva Society of Photography and received a silver medal at the Toulouse photography exhibition. He founded the publishing house Boissonnas SA in 1919. His frequent travels to Greece resulted in a commission from the Greek government to create an album, "The Image of Greece," in which he depicted the landscape and culture of the country and set the standard for post-war Greek photography.
