Lot description
Fernand Fonssagrives (1910-2003) was born near Paris and was a photographer best known for his "beauty photography" in the early 1940's. He was the first husband of the model Lisa Fonssagrives, who by 1936 had became the first recognizable ‘model’ working for Vogue and Harper’s Bazaar. They had met at dance school, as both were dancers originally, but after a diving accident Fernand was unable to continue dancing. Lisa gave him his first camera, encouraging him to pursue photography and becoming his model. Their partnership produced some of his most famous work, particularly his nude photographs of Lisa.
