Lot description
Proceeds from the sale of this work benefit Habitat for Humanity of Washington, D.C. (DC Habitat), a non-profit organization that works to eliminate poverty housing and homelessness in the nation's capital by building affordable, energy-efficient homes for low-income families in need.

Known for his conceptual work, Colombian-born artist Federico Uribe (B.1962) extracts colors and textures from unique and diverse materials, such as puzzle pieces, books, and wood scraps, to build abstract compositions that command the attention of the viewer. With mundane objects, Uribe aims to provide a singular, elevated experience that gives a sense of order to the chaos. Uribe studied at the University of Los Andes, Bogota, Colombia (1984-1987), the State University of New York, New York, NY (1988-1989), and the Institute of Arts, La Habana, Cuba (1990). He has received numerous grants for his work from institutions including The Delfina Studios Trust, London, UK (1992) and the Art Center of South Florida, Miami, FL (2000). His work has recently been exhibited in solo shows at Wolfsonian Museum, Miami, FL (2010); Chelsea Art Museum, New York, NY (2009); Oratorio di San Rocco, Padova, Italy (2009); and FUMI Gallery, London, UK (2009).
